Lutsk City Mayor meets with the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine

Lutsk City Mayor meets with the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine

On July 17, Lutsk City Mayor, Ihor Polishchuk, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine, Inga Stanytė-Toločkienė. The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Lutsk, Serhii Martyniak, and Lutsk City Council member Roman Bondaruk.

At the beginning of the meeting, Lutsk City Mayor expressed his gratitude to Lithuania and its people for their significant support of Ukraine and the Lutsk community during the full-scale invasion. He emphasized the strong partnership with three Lithuanian regions: Kaunas, Trakai District Municipality, and Tauragė District Municipality, which have repeatedly provided humanitarian aid since the beginning of the war.

“We are deeply grateful to our Lithuanian partners for their vital support and assistance,” the mayor said.

Ambassador Stanytė-Toločkienė, in turn, thanked the mayor for the opportunity to visit Lutsk and learn more about how the city is functioning and addressing the needs of internally displaced persons. She noted that such visits help identify ways in which Lithuania can continue to support Lutsk and explore new areas of cooperation.

The discussion also touched on expanding cultural ties, particularly through joint initiatives in preparation for the 600th anniversary of the Congress of European Monarchs in Lutsk, which will be marked in 2029. Ambassador Stanytė-Toločkienė highlighted the historical significance of this event for both Ukraine and Lithuania, noting that Lithuanian historians regard it as the first European summit.

She also shared plans for upcoming cultural initiatives by the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine, including a jazz festival and a Lithuanian Film Week, and invited the Lutsk community to consider taking part in these events.
