Water purification stations installed in Lutsk schools
Water purification stations have begun operating in Lutsk schools. Sixteen drinking water purification units have already been installed in schools in Lutsk, and another one in the city’s children’s polyclinic. This project is being implemented with the support of UNICEF in cooperation with MUE “Lutskvodokanal” and the Department of Education of Lutsk City Council. The water in the dispensers is purified through several filters, and the samples taken for testing showed excellent results.
“This gives children the opportunity not to bring water from home or buy it in a store, but to drink it directly at school,” said Lutsk City Mayor Ihor Polishchuk. “The purification stations are also connected to the school kitchen facilities, which allows clean water to be used for cooking. This is very good, as the quality of the water we consume affects our health. And when we talk about children, it’s especially important, as clean, good-quality water is now available in sixteen schools in unlimited quantities.”
The capacity of one station is designed for approximately 2,000 liters per day. This amount is certainly more than sufficient.
“It is important that more people have the opportunity to consume high-quality water practically free of charge. The project is funded mainly by international donors. The stations will be serviced by ‘Lutskvodokanal’. This project already covers more than 15,000 children in our community. If we implement everything planned next year, the number of children benefiting from it will be significantly higher,” Ihor Polishchuk emphasized.
