Commemoration held for victims of the Holodomors in Ukraine
Today, the memory of the victims of the Holodomors in Ukraine was honored.
Representatives of the authorities, the clergy, and the public laid flowers at the memorial sign to the Christian Mercy of Volyn Residents on the grounds of the Church of Exaltation of the Cross, as well as at the monument to the victims of political repressions on the square in front of Lutsk Castle. Priests held a memorial service for those who died during the Holodomors. The commemorative events honoring the victims of the man-made famine were attended by Lutsk City Mayor Ihor Polishchuk, his deputy Iryna Chebeliuk, Deputy Head of the Volyn Regional State Administration Roman Romaniuk, and Deputy Head of the Volyn Regional Council Hryhorii Pustovit.
Addressing those present, Metropolitan Mykhail of Lutsk and Volyn emphasized that today we remember the events of the 20th century. Thanks to declassified archives, we now have reliable information about the causes and consequences of the Holodomors. The Soviet leadership sought to destroy our people and our identity. Yet we endured!
Unfortunately, we are once again continuing the struggle for our freedom and independence. Russia destroys our cities and villages every day, kills people, and seeks to subjugate Ukraine through terror and genocide. Our enemy has always wanted, and still wants, to destroy us as a nation.
At exactly 16:00, candles of remembrance were lit!
We pray for every Ukrainian, we pray for Ukraine.
