Lutsk City Mayor met with Svitlana Yavorska, Head of the British Embassy Office in Lviv

Svitlana Yavorska, Head of the British Embassy Office in Lviv has visited Lutsk. As part of her visit, she met with Lutsk City Mayor Ihor Polishchuk.

During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for establishing cooperation between the Lutsk City Council and municipalities in the United Kingdom. Svitlana Yavorska was interested in how the municipality is living during the war, whether there are programs for veterans, how internally displaced persons are adapting, and what the municipality’s current needs are. 

Ihor Polishchuk noted that Lutsk City Council has many sister cities and partners with whom it cooperates productively. He also emphasized the city’s interest in partnerships with municipalities in the United Kingdom, the development of international relations, and the implementation of joint projects. He explained that the Lutsk community lives and works under wartime conditions and continues adapting to today’s challenges. The city is striving for energy independence: it was one of the first in Ukraine to open a solar power plant.

Mayor also stated that the municipality actively supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine by purchasing necessary equipment and machinery. According to him, special attention is being paid to work with veterans. Lutsk City Council has established the Veterans Policy Department and the “Veteran HUB” institution, for which a separate building is currently being constructed with state funding. The community also has numerous programs aimed at the adaptation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of veterans into everyday life.

Ihor Polishchuk thanked Svitlana Yavorska, Head of the British Embassy Office in Lviv, for her visit and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation, the search for partners in the United Kingdom, and the implementation of joint projects. 

Background information:

On February 12, 2026, in Lviv, the British Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine, Neil Crompton, officially opened the British Embassy Office in Lviv.

The office is responsible for cooperation with eight regions of Ukraine: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Volyn, Rivne, Zakarpattia, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernivtsi oblasts.

The opening of the office in Lviv folllows the implementation of the 100-Year Partnership between the United Kingdom and Ukraine. The agreement was signed on January 16, 2025, by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
