Lithuanian Culture Days are taking place in Lutsk

On February 20-21, Lithuanian Culture Days are being held in Lutsk to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania – two states united by a shared history, European values, and a steadfast commitment to defending freedom and dignity.

On this occasion, a series of events is taking place in Lutsk. The program began with the presentation of the exhibition “My Museum” by photographer and exhibition designer of the National Art Museum of Lithuania, Vadym Shamkov, at the Art Museum.

The event was attended by Acting Head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration Roman Romaniuk, Deputy Head of the Regional Council Hryhorii Pustovit, Deputy Mayor of Lutsk Iryna Chebeliuk, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Lutsk Serhii Martyniak, Director of the Trakai History Museum Alvyga Zmejevskienė, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine Tomas Ivanauskas, and other distinguished guests.

Zoia Navrotska, Head of the Art Museum, emphasized the importance of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania, which are rooted in a shared history, cultural and artistic ties, and common European values.

Representatives of the regional and city authorities welcomed the honored guests to Lutsk.

Deputy Mayor Iryna Chebeliuk stressed the historical significance of cooperation and interaction between the two states, noting that Lutsk maintains strong partnership relations with three Lithuanian cities. She expressed gratitude, on behalf of the residents of Lutsk, to the Director of the Trakai History Museum for the assistance their city has been providing to Lutsk during this challenging time.

“Thank you for not standing aside from the realities of our present life. Your support is very important to us,” she stated.

Iryna Chebeliuk also emphasized that Lutsk has a rich history. She spoke about preparations for a landmark event that will take place in 2029 — the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the Congress of European Monarchs, the largest diplomatic meeting, which was held in January 1429 in Lutsk at the initiative of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas.

“This is yet another proof that Lutsk is a European city and Ukraine is a European state. We hope that the horde that has now invaded our territory will be stopped and will not encroach on any other country, and that the civilized world will not stand aside,” she added.

Iryna Chebeliuk thanked the Lithuanian guests for their support and presented them with commemorative gifts on behalf of the city.

Afterward, a presentation of a painting album by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis took place, along with a screening of the film “On the Cloud Boat.”

On February 21, as part of the continued Lithuanian Culture Days program, the exhibition “Life as Theatre” by Stasys Eidrigevičius opens at the Taras Shevchenko Volyn Academic Regional Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater.
