Interactive safety classroom opens in Lutsk

On May 1, a new modern interactive safety classroom was opened in Lutsk, Ukraine. The opening ceremony of the "Firefighter's Safety Alphabet" classroom was attended by Yurii Verbych, Deputy Mayor, Manager of the Executive Committee Affairs, regional officials, and Marzena Baranowska, Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Lutsk.

This new educational space was established as part of the project "Supporting social prevention in Ukraine through improving education on the safety of children and youth using classrooms." The initiative is co-financed by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the "Polish Aid" program. Project partners include the SES of Ukraine, the Fire Safety Academy in Warsaw, and the State Fire Service of Poland.

The classroom is divided into several educational zones, featuring a home hazard simulator, a first aid area, and a kitchen simulation zone. A model fire truck is also present, allowing children to watch a special video demonstrating how rescuers prepare and respond to emergencies. The room is equipped with various interactive mannequins, models, and simulators, such as an iron, oven, and apartment doors with simulated fire scenarios. To mark the opening, an open lesson titled "Home Safety" was conducted for young aspiring rescuers.

Myroslav Demianchuk, Head of the SES Department in Volyn Oblast, emphasized that this unique educational space will significantly enhance pupils' understanding of basic safety rules and help them remember action algorithms during various emergencies. He expressed gratitude to the Polish partners for their comprehensive support and financial assistance in implementing the project.

Guests also toured the fire and rescue service museum-exhibition of Volyn, which has been operational for nearly 40 years and has welcomed over 300,000 visitors from Volyn, Ukraine, and abroad. The interactive safety classroom will serve as an additional feature of the museum-exhibition. Attendees were introduced to the operations of a universal mass decontamination complex, where Volyn rescuers, along with emergency medical services and sanitary-epidemiological experts, demonstrated all stages of sanitary treatment for the population in case of potential chemical or radiation contamination.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Volyn rescuers received commendations from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, regional authorities, and the Lutsk City Council.

Deputy Mayor, Manager of the Executive Committee Affairs Yurii Verbych presented the Mayor's Certificates of Appreciation to Civil Protection Service Sergeants Borys Romasa and Kostiantyn Tremba for their high professionalism, courage, and promptness in performing their duties, conducting emergency response activities, and protecting the lives and health of residents of the Lutsk City Territorial Community.
