Spring eco-cleanup “Eco Movement” held in Zhydychyn

Spring eco-cleanup “Eco Movement” held in Zhydychyn

On the territory of the Zhydychyn District of Lutsk City Territorial Community, the spring eco-cleanup event “Eco Movement Zhydychyn” took place. The initiative aimed to prepare the historical part of the village for the upcoming tourist season.

The event was initiated by the Department of Social Services for Family, Children, and Youth of the Lutsk City Council, the Monastic Community of Volyn, the museum space “Okolnyi Castle,” and the NGO “Work Together.” Approximately one hundred participants joined the cleanup, including city council officials and employees, deputies, members of public organizations, monastery parishioners, utility services, and residents of Zhydychyn.

The cleanup took place in the historic part of Zhydychyn, covering the area from the monastery to the Holy Spirit Skete through the park. The event also served to strengthen community ties through collective participation.

Participants also prepared a new location for opening—a large observation deck near the Holy Spirit Skete, which now has a solid surface and installed benches. This spot offers a beautiful view intended to attract both local residents and tourists.

The observation deck was created as part of the project “Eco-Cultural Space 'PryStan'.” Last year, it was among the winners of social project competitions conducted by the Department of Social Services for Family, Children, and Youth. The project's concept is to integrate the old riverbed of the Styr River into the space of Zhydychyn village, clean it up, and create a pleasant recreational area.

At the end of the eco-cleanup, all participants were treated to traditional kulish (Ukrainian millet porridge) and tea, and were invited to take a tour of ancient Zhydychyn.
