Students from Lutsk visited Schweinfurt, Germany

From June 1 to 7, a group of 11 students from the Lutsk City Territorial Community visited the city of Schweinfurt (Bavaria, Germany) as part of a student exchange program launched in 2023, following the signing of an agreement to develop friendly relations and cooperation between the two cities. The trip was organized at the invitation of Sebastian Remelé, the Lord Mayor (Oberbürgermeister) of Schweinfurt, Lutsk's twin city.
The exchange program included a meeting with city officials, who warmly welcomed the Ukrainian students and wished them an enjoyable stay in Schweinfurt.
Throughout the week, the students attended classes at one of Schweinfurt’s schools, Walther-Rathenau-Gymnasium und Realschule, to share educational and cultural experiences with their German peers.

The teenagers also took part in various sports and recreational activities aimed at fostering intercultural dialogue between the students of both cities. Together with German students, they played traditional German bowling (Kegeln) and visited the Baggersee recreational area, where they had the opportunity to meet with Helmut Backhaus, a representative from Schweinfurt’s Youth Affairs Department. Additionally, they had a meeting with Jürgen Montag, Social Affairs Officer of the City of Schweinfurt.

The students from Lutsk enthusiastically shared their cultural traditions with the German peers, talking about famous landmarks in Lutsk, traditional sweets and Ukrainian embroidery. They also prepared small souvenirs to remember the visit, which pleasantly surprised their German hosts.

A highlight of the trip was an excursion to the nearby city of Bamberg. The organizers had prepared an engaging and educational cultural program that included a city-wide quest, which the participants thoroughly enjoyed.

This visit was a valuable experience for all involved and made a significant contribution to strengthening the twin-city partnership between Lutsk and Schweinfurt.
