The VI International Literary Festival “Frontera” Has Started in Lutsk
On 25–26 July, Lutsk is hosting the VI International Literary Festival “Frontera”, which has traditionally become a meeting place for Ukrainian and international writers, artists, journalists, translators, and everyone interested in contemporary culture and literature.
During a press conference, First Deputy Mayor of Lutsk Iryna Chebeliuk welcomed the festival participants.
“Thank you to everyone who has come to Lutsk and will spend these two days enjoying the art of words and communication during the festival. I hope our city will be a pleasant discovery for you. Lutsk is an intercultural city with a rich history and traditions of coexistence between different cultures. Back in 1429, a congress of European monarchs was held here — an event that demonstrated the important role of the city on the political and cultural map of Europe. I am convinced that today Lutsk remains an open space for dialogue, new ideas and cultural exchange. I would like to thank the organisers for the high level of preparation of the festival, and I wish all participants and guests inspiring meetings, engaging discussions, new acquaintances and vivid impressions of their stay in our city,” said Iryna Chebeliuk.
The focus of this year’s “Frontera” is “The Boundaries of Involvement.” The theme is explored through four major discussions featuring Ukrainian and international guests.
“This year’s ‘Frontera’ is about connections between people, trust and joint action, about accessibility and sensitivity to the experiences of others, about supporting those who defend Ukraine and thanks to whom we can continue working. Together with the ‘Come Back Alive’ Foundation, a fundraising campaign is underway to support the ‘Liubart’ Brigade,” the festival organisers say.
Over the two days, participants and guests will enjoy a rich programme combining public discussions, meetings with authors, poetry readings, book presentations, musical performances, stand-up comedy and a podcast recording. The discussions focus on the role of culture during wartime, understanding contemporary challenges, memory, identity, freedom and Ukraine’s future.
More than 45 intellectuals, journalists, artists and musicians from six countries are taking part in the festival. Among them are Juan Antonio Bernier, María Sotomayor (Spain), Vivian Lavín (Chile, online), João Pina (Portugal), Joris Luyendijk (the Netherlands), Mikołaj Grynberg (Poland), as well as Valerii Puzik, Liubov Yakymchuk, Artem Chekh, Oleksandr Boichenko, Yanina Sokolova, Pavlo Derevianko, Halyna Kruk, Kateryna Kalytko, Maks Kidruk, Albert Tsukrenko (“Khamerman Destroys Viruses”), Yevhen Lir, Svitlana Taratorina, Vasyl Karp’iuk, Myroslava Barchuk, Anastasiia Zukhvala, Vakhtang Kebuladze, Taras Liutyi, Olesia Ostrovska-Liuta, Sevgil Musaieva, Taras Prokopyshyn and others.
The festival is organised by the Frontera Literary Platform. The festival is supported by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation within the “Flagship Events” programme, the Embassy of Spain in Ukraine, the ZMIN Foundation, and with the support of Lutsk City Council.
The strategic partner is the Algorithm of Actions platform. The digital partner is ideil.
The charity partner is the Come Back Alive Foundation. As part of the partnership, a fundraising campaign is underway to support the “Liubart” Brigade.
Traditionally, “Frontera” serves as a platform for cultural dialogue, international cooperation and the promotion of contemporary Ukrainian literature. The festival once again confirms its status as one of the most important literary events in Volyn, bringing together a wide audience around topical issues, important public discussions and high-quality cultural content.
